Synopsis: (WARNING! SPOILERS!)
The story opens up with the last few minutes
of the fight between Batgirl and Shiva from
Batgirl 25 and then turns to the Clocktower
where Spoiler and Oracle look in on a sleeping
Cassandra. Apparently four days have passed
between issue 25 and this one during which
Batgirl must have appeared in Batman 600
though her face lacks the injuries she'd
shown there.
With Cassandra laid up in bed,
Spoiler decides
she's the best candidate when
one of Shiva's
followers kidnaps a woman in
order to call
out whoever had defeated Shiva.
Spoiler's
doubts in her ability to actually
do this
despite her bravado towards Oracle
comes
in the form of a Batgirlformed
from her subconscious.
The normally untalkative figure
now seems
to have lot to say as she gives
Spoiler the
confidence to do this.
The follower seems to actually
believe Spoiler
is the one who defeated Shiva
until he manages
to hit her and then it becomes
quite obvious
to him that this is not the one
he seeks.
Instead of receiving the honorable
death
he was seeking instead Shiva's
temple has
been defiled and he attempts
to kill Spoiler.
Spoiler however gets in a lucky
blow and
the fight is ended and she returns
to the
Clocktower.
Analysis: Cover: (4 of 5 cowls)
The gray colored Batgirl on the cover gives
a foreshadowing of what lies within without
giving away any of the story. The damage
to Spoiler is more realistic of the fight
then the apparent lack of injuries within.
Story: (3 of 5 cowls)
More of a fill in issue then anything else.
The issue focuses on Spoiler with only a
few token appearances by Batgirl via Spoiler's
subconscious. The main shining point of this
issue is the relationship between Spoiler
and Batgirl as she talks to Batgirl but also
from her initial conversation with Oracle.
Artwork: (3 of 5 cowls)
Compared to the almost manga feel this book
normally carries this issue was rather cartoon
like in comparison with only the villain
carrying any of the books normal feel in
the way he was drawn. The lack of injuries
to Spoiler is a major error in the artwork
from my point of view considering most of
the issue surrounds the fact Spoiler doesn't
think she's up to the task and takes some
blows and kicks during the fight.
